The firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze which consumed approximately two acres of bush at a cost in excess of $3700 in equipment and manpower. A search of the area by firefighters revealed no accelerants, open fires or cigarette butts and a positive cause of the fire could be not be determined.

Information was received by the Fire Chief for North Kawartha Township that a white Chevrolet pick-up had been observed in the area prior to the fire and he notified officers from Peterborough Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.

On Sunday April 29, 2012, as a result of the investigation, the owner of the pick-up, James Connor ORGAN age 18 years of Burlington was charged for Mischief.
A second male, identified as James Henry BRACEGIRDLE age 21 years of Scarborough, was with ORGAN at the time of the incident, has also been charged for Mischief.

Both males are students from Sir Sandford Fleming College’s Pre-Firefighter Service Program and were “on call” student firefighters for North Kawartha Fire Department.

BRACEGIRDLE and ORGAN are scheduled to appear at the Provincial Courts in Peterborough on Thursday May 31, 2012.
